This liu an is from a family that has probably been selling liu an in Hong Kong longer than anyone else! Their liu an is dry storage and this is also the first liu an I ever tried. To this day, this is one of my favorite liu ans, and one I've purchased several times during the last six years. I have always preferred their liu an to their pu erh, and I find their dry storage to be absolutely perfect. While there is a hint of a humid note to the dry leaf, I noticed no humid notes at all in the cup when brewing in Nixing clay (which is slightly muting).

The family do not specify how old this liu an is, or how long it is stored for. The tea is simply sold when ready to drink!

Liu an was seen as the ultimate tea by the Cantonese for decades, and traditional storage pu erh was seen as a cheap substitute for those who couldn't afford liu an. Perhaps this tea will help you better understand why the Cantonese had so much appreciation for liu an! Our environment is ideal for the storage of this tea. Liu an really benefits from the climate here and ages to something that is very pleasurable to drink and easy on the tummy. Young liu an is bitter and rough on the guts, and after trying it once, I don't think I ever want to try it again!

This tea could, of course, be aged for longer if desired, and I may purchase some to age. I do have 450g or so of liu an from a different dealer aging away in my own Hong Kong dry storage. I've had it for around five years, and may offer it for sale soon!

This tea has lovely nutty liu an character, but has been aged just right, so this note is pleasantly mellowed. In the cup, this tea is extremely smooth on the throat and very easy to drink. This is one of my favorite teas. It is very reasonably priced I hope you will enjoy as much as I do!

Brewing suggestion: Full boil, with water of low hardness (15-35 mg/L, with 1-3 mg/L of magnesium). Rinse twice, and start with 10-15 second infusions for the first two or three infusions, then add 10-15 seconds to each successive infusion. If the liquor is too weak, add more time.

Volume discounts are available on this tea! Please feel free to contact me at if you're interested in wholesale quantities of this liu an.
