Good Morning towels have a long history in Southeast Asia, where they have long been exported. Singaporeans love these towels and they are retro chic there. In the Philippines, blue collar guys often drape them over their heads or shoulders to mop up sweat with. Apparently these towels were originally produced for the Hong Kong market. The English on them was to appeal to the British expatriates who lived in the colony of Hong Kong in the 19th and 20th centuries.

These towels are guaranteed authentic: originally produced by state factories in China, these towels are churned out by factories throughout Guangdong, and they are widely faked in 2018. These particular towels are extra long, and can be cut in two for two washcloths, or even used as a small bath towel. These are the only towels allowed in jails and prisons in Hong Kong, so the extra long length available on the HK market makes them more versatile for use in penal settings since they can be used whole or cut in two if need be.

While these would readily stain if used to mop up tea with, they can be used to mop up water spills or used in the kitchen. Older eateries in Hong Kong often use old Good Morning towels as rags to clean tables up with, and you often see old Good Morning towels hanging on lines around the city!

These towels are a unique piece of living Hong Kong history. I sometimes wear mine as a fashion accessory, which never fails to get attention. :)
