Description

This maocha was sourced by a dealer in Yunnan who purchases tea from a family every year. The tea is supposedly from a village in the Menghai area that is not known for pu erh production. The dealer claims the tree is around a century old and that all the production is from a single tree. I don't believe the dealer's stories, but the maocha itself is definitely excellent for the money, and in the end, that's what matters!

This tea is hand picked and processed and the maocha is definitely very different from any other sheng maocha or pressed sheng pu erh I've ever tried. I get fresh milk and a sweet floral aroma that almost reminds me of jasmine, but this floral character is sweeter and less offensive to my palate than jasmine is. The flavor of the liquor is identical to the aroma, and lasts on the palate for a good, long time, which is a very desirable trait with any tea. This tea also has a powerful mouth-cooling effect, which was unexpected.

The liquor is sweet and has lovely light huigan that is well balanced with the character of the tea. The cha qi of the fresh maocha is intense and almost mindbending, and this tea made me sweat, even with the air conditioning on! As with a lot of fresh, unpressed maocha, I found this tea a little rough on the tummy, but the other characteristics of this tea made the slight discomfort well worth it! I believe this tea would be a good candidate for aging, for those of you who like aged maocha (and I know I do)!
