Description

This is a lovely baimudan from the same producer as the Grade 1 baimudan I also offer: this tea is 60% of the price of the Grade 1 tea, so it makes for a more economical daily drinker of surprising quality! 


The dry leaf smells almost as good as the Grade 1, which was a surprise. I brewed some up for 3 minutes at 85 Celsius to test this tea (in a glazed shiboridashi). I was greeted with a sweet, pleasant aroma and liquor. The liquor is nice and smooth. My mother says it reminds her of the Darjeeling she grew up drinking, and I can definitely see some similarity there, but Fuding baimudan definitely has a character all its own!

I find this tea to be less complex than the Grade 1, but very pleasant in its own regard. I find this tea to be sweeter and it has lovely candy fruit notes, which were unexpected. The cha qi and umami are both excellent, and this tea is just starting to develop hongcha notes. 

This tea is truly excellent value! If you're used to drink white tea cakes, this tea (or my better white teas) might really surprise you with their complexity and intensity of aroma!
