These cakes were pressed in April 2017, and I've stored them in my warehouse here in Hong Kong since June 2017, so these cakes have had a full three years to age. My natural storage is warmer and dryer than ambient conditions without any interference on my part, aside from some air conditioning use when I'm around to keep things bearable! I think you'll find my storage makes for significantly different results from Guangdong or Kunming dry or natural storage, and I highly recommend trying the same tea from different storage environments so you can see how crucial proper storage is to the pu erh drinking experience.

There is definitely no residual wo dui or fermentation character left here, and the tea smells sweet and pleasant, a lot like a well aged 7572. This is significantly different from a Dayi 7572, however, and I may even prefer this tea, although I find the cha qi from a 7572 to be intense. This FT7573 doesn't have the same calming effect on me that a 7572 does, but the taste and longevity in the pot (as well as the low price point) make this recipe a very good alternative, or even something you can very much enjoy in its own right.

These cakes are produced from high mountain qiao mu material, or from pu erh trees that now have wood in their trunks. The leaves are large and full, which is a nice change from plantation material.

I got nine good infusions from this tea this morning before I decided to stop (purely because I didn't want anymore caffeine)! The flavor is a lot like a chocolate brownie, but this tea has balanced and pleasant bitterness (and no sweetness). I also get a hint of dark raisin-like character in the aftertaste, which is pleasant. This is a very good shou for the price point, and I have yet to be disappointed by any Xiaguan ripe to date. I was asked how this compares to a Xiaguan Xiao Fa tuo and I find this to be similar as far as aroma, but with a character that is definitely distinct from the Xiao Fa. I would love to see how these cakes turn out with more time!
