Description

March 31st, 2021

I bought these 250g tuos from a Kunming wholesaler in September 2019, and have stored them in my own warehouse ever since. I thought I'd held these for a full two years already, which is usually the minimum amount of time I hold Kunming-stored tea for before sale. Since I tested these yesterday and sacrificed a tuo to testing, I'm putting these up today, even though I feel this tea needs more time to truly shine! I will update the description again after these have had more time in the warehouse. As with all of my listings, if you'd like my to retest something, just ask!

These tuos are definitely drinkable now, but there is residual smoke and bitterness that will age down significantly in the next year or two. These tuos, straight from the Kunming warehouse they were stored in, would have been very rough and smokey drinking. Even Guangdong dry stored Xiaguan Yesheng tuos can be extremely unpleasant to drink due to the overly conservative storage employed by some Guangdong wholesalers.

The wild material used for tuos is lovely and ages to something incredible in the right storage, and you can already taste the deep and distinct yesheng varietal character in the aftertaste. These tuos would be a good candidate for someone who can age these further or doesn't mind (or even enjoys) a little smoke and bitterness.

The aftertaste from these tuos is already lovely, but will become more prominent (and dominant) with more time as the smoke recedes, and I have no doubt my storage will greatly reduce the bitterness in these tuos as well.
