This is an excellent shou from way back in 2006: this tea has been stored in Guangdong for well over a decade. This is a smooth, dark chocolate-bittersweet shou pu erh with absolutely no wo dui or humid storage aromatics whatsoever. The light bitterness and balanced sweetness are really very pleasant, and I love this kind of bittersweet character in my shou! The light sugary sweetness really lasts on the palate. This tea is really a lot nicer than the price would indicate! 

This tea has a certain depth you only find in wild material, and Mengku uses really excellent maocha! The fermentation was done very well, and these cakes are very clean, compared to a lot of tea that was produced by the big factories in 2006. No foreign matter in this material (yet)!

Now, in June 2019, I can just snap a chunk right off the cake to brew. The 13 years of aging and the summer heat and humidity have loosened the cake right up!

Straight from Guangdong dry storage, this tea needed a few months to wake up, but my sample cake, which I've had for quite a bit longer, has much more developed aromatics. These cakes don't have the sweet ripe fruit aromas just yet (in June 2019), but should develop them over the year. I will update the description for this cake as the cakes age further.

These 400g cakes are very good value and were made with excellent material, by a renowned factory I have lots of respect for! The liquor is bittersweet and thick with lovely huigan and good cha qi. One of my regulars bought one of these cakes from me before even trying it out, and he's been very pleased with the value!
