This is a vintage red-clay coated, purple clay (also known as neiwailinhong) houhin. This means the body and lid are composed of zini clay, which is then dipped and coated in red clay. This makes the houhin a little less porous than zini, but with a lot of the characteristics of zini.

I find these houhins perform extremely well with Hong Kong and Guangdong-storage pu erh, both dry and traditional storage. They would also work very will with heicha, and could also be used for grandpa-style brewing with high fire oolongs. I have two of these in my own collection and I am putting this one up for sale. It is flawless: no chips or cracks, and it has been reset so all of the previous staining from use with sencha are now gone.

This houhin has a fast 16-second pour and 19-hole filter specific to these houhins (see the pictures). Please note these houhins get VERY hot with use with boiling water, so you'd want to have a tea towel handy to hold onto them for the pour. I personally have no problems doing this since I'm so very fond of the clay and the performance of these houhins!
